WORKSHOP with DR. THOMAS GREEN

THE DYNAMICS OF PERFORMANCE PREPARATION:

STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS IN MUSIC FESTIVALS AND EXAMINATIONS

This is an invaluable workshop for teachers, senior students and parents, delivered by the current Chief Examiner of Practical Subjects at RCM Examinations. In his presentation, Dr. Green will compare the educational opportunities offered by music festivals and examinations and suggest ways in which students can obtain the maximum benefit from both types of event. Drawing on his years of experience as a teacher, adjudicator and examiner, Dr. Green will outline expected standards and marking schemes, suggest strategies for selecting repertoire and explore ways of conquering performance anxiety through effective practicing. By sharing his “insider’s” perspective and addressing your questions Dr. Green will offer tips and

suggestions that will facilitate the process of performance preparation for all involved.

Thomas Green teaches piano at the Académie Ste-Cécile and at his private studio in Windsor as well as at the Via Music Studios in Mississauga. Among his students and former students are several provincial finalists, silver medal winners and exceptional talents who have chosen music as a career. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in music from McGill University and the Université de Montréal, a Master’s in Performance from the Université de Montréal and a Ph.D. in Music History from Brandeis University. Dr. Green has taught music history at McGill University, the University of Toronto and the University of Windsor and for several years served as Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief at the Frederick Harris Music Company in Oakville.
