  1. Management:
    1. NYCO Music Festival shall manage the Festival Proceedings.
    2. In case of unforeseeable events, the Festival reserves the right to postpone or cancel the Festival.
    3.  An administration fee of $10 will not be refunded.
    4. The Festival will not be responsible for the loss or damage to musical instruments or personal injury during the Festival.
  2. Eligibility:
    1. NYCO Music Festival will be held in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada.
    2. The Festival is open to all amateur musicians, whose principal source of revenue is not obtained from the profession of music.
    3. Students studying under the guidance of the adjudicator are not eligible to participate in the Festival.
  3. Standards:
    1. Each contestant will be judged by the highest artistic standards with regard to musicianship, technical proficiency and stage performance.
    2. All classes shall be open to the public.
  4. Adjudication:
    1. The Adjudicator reserves the right not to award all prizes.
    2. The Adjudicator may select award recipients from competitive and/or non-competitive streams. A minimum of three classes must be entered to qualify for an award.
    3. The Adjudicator’s decision is final and requires no explanation.
    4. The Adjudicator may discuss the performances of any contestants.
    5. Parents, teachers and contestants are not permitted to converse with the Adjudicator at any time.
    6. All complaints must be submitted in writing and mailed to NYCO Music Festival no later then 24 hours after the performance.
  5. Registration:
    1. NYCO Music Festival office must receive entry form with payment to NYCO Music Festival postmarked no later than Friday, February 19, 2010.
    2. Mail applications to the address indicated on the entry form.
    3. Incomplete or illegible forms will be rejected. Please write clearly or use the printable version from the website.
    4. The organizers of NYCO Music Festival reserve the right to accept or reject any application.
    5. By signing the application, the applicant or his/her guardian, accepts the rules and regulations of the Festival and if requested, agrees to perform on behalf of the Festival without a fee.
    6. It is the responsibility of teachers and contestants to read all the rules and enter the correct classes.
    7. Class, dates and selection changes will not be permitted.
    8. The schedule of the competition will be mailed or e-mailed to the teacher.
    9. No receipts will be issued. Entry fees are non-refundable, except under circumstances where the Committee rejects the entry.
    10. An additional charge of $25.00 CA will be applied to any NSF cheque.
    11. Late entries may be considered upon receipt of a late fee established on a per-case basis.
  6. Scholarships and Awards:
    1. Certificates will be issued for First, Second and Third places in all classes provided that the following marks are achieved: First place: minimum of 85%; Second place: 80%; Third place: 75%.
    2. Based on Adjudicator’s markings, scholarships will be awarded to the competitors who display the most potential to develop musically in the future.
    3. To be eligible for a scholarship and/or to perform with the Symphony Orchestra, competitors must enter and compete in a minimum of three classes. Scholarship eligibility: three competitive classes. Concerto Class eligibility: three competitive classes or two competitive classes and a master class.
    4. All scholarships will be presented at the Gala Concert. Scholarship recipients must attend the Gala concert in order to collect their award. Some recipients of the first place certificates may be asked to perform at the Gala Concert.
    5. The winner(s) of the Concerto competition will perform with the Symphony Orchestra.
    6. Some classes, as well as the Gala Concert may be recorded live. These recordings may be used for transmission in all media. NYCO Music Festival has the rights to these recordings and all other recordings of the concerts and events related to NYCO Music Festival.
    7. NYCO Music Festival is permitted to use any form of media utilized during the Festival, as well as the Official Programme, website, press releases and database for historical records for the specific purpose of promoting the Festival without any monetary gain to the participant.
  7. Performance requirements and programming procedure:
    1. The same piece cannot be performed in more than one class by the same performer.
    2. Pieces in all graded classes, except those marked “Own Choice” must be chosen from the current Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus or Conservatory Canada Syllabus.
    3. Concertos and solo repertoire on all instruments must be performed by memory, unless otherwise stated. In non-competitive and ensemble classes music may be used.
    4. Students may enter classes in two consecutive grades.
    5. Time limits must be strictly observed. Length of piece must not exceed 15 minutes, unless otherwise specified. Adjudicators will enforce this time stipulation.
    6. For the purpose of the competition please omit all repeats except D.C.
    7. Original music must be provided for the adjudicator. Photocopies are not permitted and will result in disqualification.
    8. Contestants must arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled class.
    9. Instrumentalists must provide their own accompanists and page-turner, if needed. Taped accompaniment is not allowed.
    10. Competitors are responsible for all their expenses related to the Festival.
    11. The organizers of the Festival reserve the right to combine or subdivide any classes, as they deem necessary.
    12. The organizers of the Festival reserve the right to substitute or appoint additional Adjudicators.
    13. Rehearsing on location is not permitted. String competitors may have their instruments tuned by a teacher or other person.
    14. No photography or audio/video taping of competitors or adjudicators is allowed. Compliance with these rules is strictly enforced and could result in disqualification.
